DrakesCaribeanadventure:

One of the most famous adventures ever, was Drakes capture of the Spanish Silver train, in 1573 at the port of Nombre de Dios in the Caribean . Drake captured a huge load of Gold and Silver, eventually having to leave behind much of the Silver as he ship was so weighted down with Gold. It was during this adventure that Drake famously climbed a high tree in Panama and became the first Englishman to view the Pacific Ocean. He remarked at the time he hoped once day an Englishman would be able to sail upon it, a feat he was later able to complete during his circumnavigation of the world.

Upon Drakes return from the Caribean to Plymouth in 1573, Drake and his 30 crew became very wealthy men, but the Queen of England had signed a temporary truce with King Phillip II of Spain. The Queen therefore did not officially acknowledge this accomplishment.
